Lastly in regard to this first distinction I ask about the enjoyer, namely to whom as subject enjoyment belongs, and first whether enjoying belongs to God. It seems that it does not: Because enjoyment is with respect to the end; but God does not have an end; therefore enjoying does not belong to God. 160. On the contrary: God loves himself; and he does not love himself because of something else, because then he would be using himself; therefore he enjoys himself.
