C. Solution of the Question

The solution of the question, therefore, is plain from these two articles [n.164; nn.165-210, nn.215-219], namely that the property of the Word is the reason of terminating, and that, according to the authorities, it seems to be a relative or a relation of origin n.207], although the reasons adduced [nn.165-171] do not prove this [nn.179-199].The Vatican editors say that Scotus’ answer here is more motivated by the authorities of the saints than by the arguments adduced (which he has just been criticizing). One might also add that Scotus himself, while allowing that the persons are in some sense relatives, seems nevertheless inclined to the view that their primary constituting factors are absolutes, nn.207, 210. ¹⁸
