PITHY QUOTES FROM PAST MASTERS

Bibliographical studies that deal with male writers of Haywood’s importance from the eighteenth century rarely experience the problems faced here. Unlike Daniel Defoe, Alexander Pope, Jonathan Swift or Henry Fielding, for example, little is known of Haywood’s life and few records survive of a public or private nature. Likewise, no single public or private library has approached completeness in gathering together the works of Haywood. Indeed, it appears as if no library has ever made the attempt.
